Here, for your viewing pleasure, in their press-less glory, are the prints I received from the No Press Print exchange organized by Anna Reser. Check out the prints below and take a look at the artists' websites, which I will provide if possible.

Delusions of Grandeur

On my last night with access to the Vandercook, I printed a set of notebooks to sell at the print sale, just before the end of my undergraduate career. I couldn't help myself from printing such a deliciously snarky phrase on these notebooks which would soon be full of sketches and ideas.

I don't entirely mean to be an asshole; belittling others' ideas, creativity, and aspirations. I just want to be realistic, if only for a second.

POLICE

Police, 2012, 2-Color Trace Monotype, 8"x 8"

The first print of the new year, made for the No Press Print exchange organized by Anna Reser. The exchange required an edition or series of 8, 8"x8" prints created without the use of a printing press, thus the name.

I used an old image of mine and a brand-spanking-new technique, the trace monotype, which is basically fancy, homemade tracing paper. It is a simple process that has plenty of untapped potential; I will try to push it further in the coming months. I also used Akua water-based inks for the first time and they are AWESOME; they clean up so very easily.

Not sure if images of the entries will go online, if not I will try to post them when I get my set.

(un)Familiar

Well now that it's been a little over a month since my show and things have finally settled down, it is time to put up pictures! If you are interested in anything, let me know and we can discuss, barter, and/or haggle.

Negative Space

I took a quick trip to UNM's art building tonight to execute an idea I had. My original intention was to remove all of the information (flyers) from the inside of a circle. After more pondering I thought this shape was much more appropriate. Keep reading for a few shots of it in the making.

Adventures in Letterpress: The California Job Case

Among other things, UNM's print department is home to a Vandercook No. 2 Proof Press. It sits largely unused and unnoticed in the Lithography studio because few people know how to use it. Lucky for me, a grad student who was in the studio one night knew what she was doing and gave me a basic rundown on how to set type and get it ready to print. I've been playing with it ever since; it's so much fun!

Gateway

I know it's been a while but I finally got my hands on the pictures of my final sculpture so I thought I ought to put them up. 

New Toys

Took a nice trip to Highway Supply to get materials instead of going to class.

With my final sculpture project coming up, I realized too late that I need to get materials. Lately I've been working with traffic related images: signs, street cones, etc., so I figured I should go to the source. As far as Albuquerque is concerned it seems like Highway Supply LLC is the place to go.

After talking to several confused employees, I finally talked to a man named Dave who told me to head down and we could talk about what I wanted. My brother and I headed down and had a pleasant conversation with Dave who was curious about how the end result might look. After 20 minutes or so Aaron and I left with 2 reject traffic barrels (only two would fit in the backseat) with the promise of more to come. Now I just need to figure out how to cut/fuse the plastic together...

Tamarind Collaborative Class

Just received my second collaborative project from Tamarind. Every spring the Tamarind Institute holds a collaborative class where UNM art students work with the printers in training at Tamarind. This year I was lucky enough to be one of 8 students, and the only undergrad, accepted into the class.

Included after the jump are some details of the print.

St. Louis Here We Come!

So after a long day of printing I figured I better get something on the internetz before the SGC International conference next week. I'll try to put up some of my more recent work in the next few days. In the meantime, here's a print I worked on last semester and tried to edition today with limited success. Flat, open aquatints do not make for easy wiping...
